On 9 September, the Special Operations Forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine struck the Novy Urengoy and Purovsk gas condensate plants in the Yamalo-Nenets Autonomous Okrug of Russia. According to the Special Operations Forces, drones operated by the Deep Strike units travelled over 3,000 kilometres to reach the targets. The operation was described as the deepest strike on Russian territory since the start of the war.

The Russian authorities have reported a fire in Novy Urengoy
Governor of the Yamalo-Nenets Autonomous Okrug Dmytro Artyukhov stated that one of the industrial facilities caught fire following the crash of drone debris in Novy Urengoy. According to him, there were no fatalities or injuries, and the nature and extent of the damage are currently being assessed.
Artem Zhoga, the Russian President’s Plenipotentiary Representative in the Ural Federal District, claimed that the target of the attack was a facility belonging to the Yamal fuel and energy complex. The region’s production chains have alternative routes for transporting liquid hydrocarbons, so the actual impact of the strike on the operations of enterprises will depend on the extent of the damage.
