What is known about the «Nikolskoye» station and its significance for Russia
The «Nikolskoye» linear production and control station is situated in the Michurinsky District of the Tambov Region and is connected to the infrastructure of the company «Transneft – Druzhba».
According to the specialist publication *Military*, the facility is involved in the transport of oil via main pipelines, in particular the Kuibyshev–Unecha-2 system. The station is equipped with pumping equipment and automatic pressure control systems, which are necessary to maintain the operational parameters for oil transportation.
In May 2026, an upgraded pressure control system was commissioned at the site.
Damage to such equipment could potentially affect the operation of certain sections of the pipeline infrastructure. However, as of the morning of 20 October, there is no confirmation that oil pumping through this station has been halted.
In 2025, Ukrainian drones had already attacked a neighbouring station
This is not the first reported attack on oil infrastructure near Michurinsk.
In August 2025, the Ukrainian Unmanned Systems Force carried out a strike on the «Nikolskoye-1» station, located a few kilometres from the facility mentioned in the current reports.
At the time, following the fire, it was reported that the pumping of oil through the «’ pipeline had been temporarily suspended«Friendship».
At the same time, «Nikolskoye» and «Nikolskoye-1» are separate sites, so the consequences of the previous attack cannot automatically be applied to the events of 20 October.
Russia’s oil infrastructure remains one of the targets of long-range strikes in the context of the war. The Ukrainian authorities have previously linked such operations to the need to reduce the economic resources that Russia uses to continue its aggression.
