French fishermen donate nets to Ukraine to create anti-drone defence

French fishermen join in to support Ukraine - they pass on old fishing nets, from which Ukrainian volunteers create anti-drone barriers.

The initiative is implemented by the charitable organisation Kernic Solidarités, which has already sent two batches of nets with a total length of 280 km. Materials used to protect military positions, hospitals and transport routes near the frontline.

How it works

Fishing nets are cleared, reinforced and mounted over critical facilities to reduce the risk of being hit by kamikaze drones. Such structures help to disrupt or deflect the trajectory of drones, reducing their effectiveness.

Reaction of fishermen

Kernic Solidarités reported that French fishermen are proud of their participation in the project:

«We are delighted that our used nets have been given a second life - this time to save lives in Ukraine.».

The significance of the initiative

This initiative has become an example of environmental approach to military assistance, When marine industry waste is used to protect civilians and the military.
