SBU detains Russian agent who was monitoring airfields in Khmelnytskyi region

Military counterintelligence Security Services of Ukraine detained 20-year-old agent of the Russian special services, who collected intelligence on the operation of Ukrainian military airfields.

According to the SBU, the spy acted on the instructions of his Russian supervisors and installed hidden surveillance cameras near runways for recording the flights of combat aircraft Air Force of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.

«The offender was detained at the scene of the crime while setting up photo traps near a military facility,» the SBU said.


Details of the detention

During the search, law enforcement officers seized a smartphone with evidence of cooperation with representatives of the Russian special services, as well as equipment for hidden video surveillance.
It was established that the agent regularly transmitted the collected information via encrypted messengers to his handlers in Russia.


Criminal proceedings

The detainee was served a notice of suspicion of high treason under martial law (Article 111 of the CCU).
He is threatened with life imprisonment with confiscation of property.

The SBU is continuing investigative actions to identify individuals who may have been involved in the organisation of the spy network.
