«We had a great meeting»: Trump, Zelenskiy declare significant progress in peace talks

President of the United States Donald Trump and the President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy announced significant progress in negotiations to resolve the war. According to them, the parties have come close to agreeing on key elements of a potential peace agreement.

«We had a great meeting. We discussed a lot of things,» said Donald Trump, commenting on the talks with the Ukrainian delegation.

According to Volodymyr Zelenskyy, the talks covered all key aspects of a possible settlement:

«The parties are very close to a settlement. We have discussed all the details of the deal. 95% - I can't say for sure, but we have moved forward.
A 20-point peace plan was agreed on 90%, security guarantees were agreed on 100%,» the President of Ukraine said.

Statements of the parties

The US President also said that the issue of a possible referendum was discussed in the context of the peace plan:

«We discussed the referendum and we can use it for a plan. We'll talk to Zelenskyy tomorrow,» Trump said.

  • «We thought it was appropriate to talk to European leaders, and our meeting was excellent.»;

  • «Some will say it's 95%, I don't know the exact percentage, but we have made significant progress in ending this war.».

At the same time, Trump admitted that not all issues have been finally resolved. Answering a question about the possible creation of a so-called free economic zone in Donbas, he said:

«We have not yet fully resolved this issue, but we are very close.».

After the bilateral meeting, the leaders also held a videoconference with European leaders, which, according to the parties, was an important step in coordinating the international position on ending the war.
