Crimea: a symbol of Russian expansion or a burden for the Kremlin?

Commander of the Unmanned Systems Unit Robert Brovdi «Madyar» has published a new appeal, in which he described the situation in occupied Crimea. According to him, Russia continues to hold on to the peninsula as a key political symbol, but its military significance for the Kremlin is gradually diminishing.

«Moscow will hold on to Crimea until the very end,» Madyar said on his Telegram channel.

According to the commander, Crimea remains a key symbol of Russian policy and propaganda. However, he emphasised that the peninsula’s role as an effective military springboard for attacks on Ukraine is gradually diminishing. The Ukrainian defence forces continue to strike at the occupiers’ logistics, air defences and military infrastructure.

A strategy to wear down the occupying forces’ infrastructure

Madyar described a strategy which he called «the Love-of-Freedom Ukrainian Bird’s borscht recipe». This strategy envisages systematic pressure on the occupiers’ military and logistical infrastructure. This involves striking air defence systems, military installations, the remnants of the Black Sea Fleet, logistics routes, energy infrastructure and the supply lines of the occupying forces. Such actions are gradually making it increasingly difficult for Russia to hold on to the peninsula.

An appeal to the residents of occupied Crimea

In his post, Madyar also addressed Ukrainian citizens who remain in the temporarily occupied territory. He urged people to stay away from military installations, ammunition depots and logistics hubs that could be used by Russian troops. According to the commander, the Ukrainian Defence Forces continue to carry out precision strikes on military targets; however, risks to the civilian population remain amid active hostilities.

Crimea could become a turning point

Madyar expressed the view that the situation surrounding Crimea could become one of the key factors exerting psychological pressure on Russian society and the Russian leadership. In his view, the gradual depletion of the occupying forces’ military capabilities and the rising costs of maintaining the peninsula could transform Crimea from a symbol of Russian expansion into a serious political and economic burden.
