A potential «window of opportunity» for a peace agreement between Ukraine and Russia may appear as early as spring. This assessment was made by a member of the Parliamentary Committee on National Security, Defence and Intelligence Fyodor Venislavsky.

Why spring can be crucial

According to Venislavsky, the March-April Russia may partially lose its instruments of pressure due to problems with electricity supply. This, in his opinion, could weaken the Kremlin's position and create preconditions for the negotiation process.

US position and Trump's plans

At the same time, according to Axios, President of the United States Donald Trump seeks to reach a peace agreement between Russia and Ukraine until June. This time horizon may coincide with possible changes in the situation at the frontline and in the energy sector.

At the same time, Ukraine's official position remains unchanged: any agreements must be based on the restoration of territorial integrity and security guarantees.
