Ukraine may be offered abandonment of Donbas in exchange for large-scale financial support from the West in the amount of up to $800 billion. This is reported by the Italian edition Corriere della Sera.
Details of the negotiations
According to journalists, during the meeting of the negotiating groups, it is planned to present four documents, which are seen as a potential basis for a future peace agreement.
One of the options involves Complete withdrawal of the Armed Forces of Ukraine from the territory of Donbas and the launch of a large-scale recovery programme with a total funding of up to $800 billion from Western partners.
Alternative scenarios
Another document contains provisions on:
providing Ukraine with security guarantees from the United States;
engagement European military contingents, that may be located on Ukrainian territory.
At the same time, according to the Corriere della Sera, the so-called «consistent scenario», according to which Ukraine's abandonment of Donbas should be the first condition, and all other security and financial arrangements should be implemented after that.
Context.
The issue of Ukraine's territorial integrity remains a key and fundamental one in any negotiations to end the war. Official Kyiv has repeatedly emphasised that will not agree to the loss of the occupied territories, and any peace initiatives should be based on international law and the UN Charter.
At the same time, Western media are increasingly publishing materials about non-public scenarios of war settlement, The new rules are currently under discussion.
