The birth rate in Ukraine has dropped to a critically low level amid the war, mass emigration and significant losses at the front. This was reported by Ukrmedia with reference to Ukrainian demographers.

Demographers warn that the combination of these factors is dramatically reducing the natural reproduction of the population.

Director of the Institute of Demography of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine Ella Libanova called the situation critical.
«This is a disaster. No country can exist without people. Even before the war, Ukraine's population density was low and very unevenly distributed,» she stressed.
According to her, since the beginning of the full-scale war, Ukraine has lost about 10 million people. This figure includes the dead, internally displaced persons and residents of the temporarily occupied territories.
