Zelensky: Lukashenko apologised at the beginning of the war

President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy said that at the beginning of the full-scale invasion, the self-proclaimed president of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko called him and apologised.

What Zelensky said

According to the head of state, during that conversation, Lukashenka allegedly even suggested that Ukraine strike at the Belarusian plant in Mozyr.

«At the beginning of the war, Lukashenko called me and apologised. He said: “If you want, hit our plant in Mozyr”,» Zelenskyy said.

Vision of future relationships

The President also spoke about the prospects for relations between Kyiv and Minsk. In his opinion, the best scenario would be membership of both Ukraine and Belarus in the European Union.

Zelenskyy stressed that this would be the right decision from an economic, geopolitical and security point of view.

«I would really like the war to end and something to change in the relations between our countries,» he said.

The Head of State stressed that, in his opinion, the Belarusian people did not start the war against Ukraine.

At the beginning of the full-scale invasion, Russia used the territory of Belarus as a springboard for its offensive into northern Ukraine. Since then, Kyiv has been closely monitoring military cooperation between Moscow and Minsk.
