Former Minister of Energy and Justice Galushchenko remanded in custody: court does not change measure of restraint
The panel of judges of the Appeals Chamber of the High Anti-Corruption Court remanded the former Minister of Energy and Justice in custody Herman Galushchenko. The court dismissed the defence's appeals and did not change the previously imposed preventive measure.
Details of the case
According to the court's decision, the suspect will continue to be held in custody with an alternative of bail in the amount of UAH 200 million. The defence lawyers insisted on mitigating the measure of restraint, but the panel of judges saw no grounds to satisfy their demands.
The HACCU Appeals Chamber noted that the defence's arguments did not refute the risks that the court of first instance had taken into account when imposing the measure of restraint.
Context.
Earlier, the High Anti-Corruption Court imposed a custodial measure of restraint on Galushchenko with the possibility of a substantial bail. The investigation suspects him of committing corruption offences, the details of which are being officially disclosed in the criminal proceedings.
The decision of the Appeals Chamber means that the preventive measure remains in force, and the defence may appeal against it in cassation.
