Drones Shahed with Russian components attacked a British airbase in Cyprus

Iranian attack drones of the Shahed, Russian-built jets attacked a British airbase in Cyprus. Western media reported this with reference to security sources.

Details of the incident

According to preliminary data, one of the drones was shot down by air defence forces. During the analysis of the wreckage, experts found a modern CRPA «Comet-M4».

This module is used to increase navigation resistance to electronic warfare and GPS signal jamming.

What is known about Kometa-M4«

A CRPA (Controlled Reception Pattern Antenna) antenna allows the drone to:

  • counteract satellite navigation jamming,

  • improve the accuracy of targeting in EW conditions,

  • save the route during active opposition.

The presence of the Comet-M4 at Shahed indicates further modernisation of these drones and the use of Russian technological solutions.

Context.

British military installations in Cyprus are of strategic importance to NATO and allied operations in the Middle East. The incident may indicate the expansion of the geography of the use of attack drones in the region.

There is no official confirmation of the extent of the attack or possible damage as of yet.
