BES ex-employee extorts $700 thousand from businessman and receives suspended sentence
Former employee Bureau of Economic Security of Ukraine Vitaly Chernenko demanded from the capital's entrepreneur 700 thousand dollars for «closing» a tax evasion case.
This is stated in the decision of the Ukrainian court.
Detained while receiving money
According to the case, the man extorted money from the businessman, promising to influence the criminal proceedings.
He was detained by officers of the Security Services of Ukraine at the time of receipt the first tranche - $100 thousand.
Court decision
The court found Chernenko guilty and sentenced him to 5 years in prison.
However, the punishment suspended for 3 years.

lifted the seizure of property
Why the sentence was reduced
The court took into account sincere repentance of the accused, as well as the availability of a minor child.
These circumstances were the grounds for mitigation of the sentence.
