President of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko said that Donald Trump had offered Minsk a «great deal». According to him, negotiations between the parties are ongoing and cover a number of important issues.
Terms of the future deal
Lukashenka clarified that the key points under discussion include:
- release of prisoners;
- the reopening of the US Embassy in Belarus;
- Nuclear materials issues.
He stressed that the Belarusian side is preparing to conclude this agreement. Details of the talks have not yet been disclosed.
Context.
Relations between the US and Belarus have remained tense in recent years. The US Embassy in Minsk has not been open since 2008. The issues of prisoner release and nuclear safety have been repeatedly raised in bilateral talks.
