The draft law looks good, but there are dangers ahead
At the first stage, the draft law provides for transparency of channel ownership and response to official requests. However, during the second reading, harsh amendments may appear that will effectively ban the messenger in Ukraine according to the Russian scenario.
Public opinion: Telegram is the main source of news
More than 80% citizens use Telegram to obtain information. Restricting access to the messenger can cause mass discontent and undermine trust in the authorities.
Control or security?
Hetmantsev emphasises that if the scenario of blocking Telegram is supported, it will not be an indication of increased security, but an attempt to control the country's information space.
