At least four people have been killed and more than 30 injured in a nighttime Russian attack in Ukraine. A rescue operation is underway in Dnipro after a residential building was hit, with people still trapped under the rubble.
Consequences of the attack: dead and dozens of wounded
President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy in the official Telegram channel reported that four people were killed and more than 30 wounded in Russia's night attack on Ukraine.
According to him, there are victims in several regions, including Chernihiv, Odesa, Kharkiv and Dnipro. The President expressed condolences to the families of the victims.
Situation in Dnipro: people under the rubble
In Dnipro a rescue operation is underway after a residential building was hit. According to Zelensky, 11 people are in hospitals.
People may be trapped under the rubble. Rescuers are working continuously to find and rescue possible survivors.
Massive attack on Ukrainian cities
The President noted that Russia had been attacking Dnipro and other cities of Ukraine almost all night. The enemy used attack drones, cruise missiles and ballistic weapons.
The main targets were civilian infrastructure. Residential buildings, energy facilities and businesses were damaged.
A call for partners: Air defence and sanctions
Zelenskyy stressed that such attacks should be a signal to international partners that Ukraine's air defence needs to be strengthened immediately.
He also thanked for the decisions taken during the meetings in Cyprus on additional contributions to the programme PURL, and stressed the importance of implementing these decisions quickly.
Ukraine calls for new sanctions
The President stated the need to prepare the 21st package of EU sanctions against Russia. According to him, the delay with the previous package gave the aggressor time to adapt.
Ukraine is already consulting with its European partners on new restrictions that are expected to hit the Russian military industry hard.
