Today, as part of the annual conference for developers WWDC 2026 Apple has officially announced a new operating system iOS 27. This year's update focused not only on visual changes but also on large-scale optimisation of the internal architecture. The main highlight of the presentation is that the system will work much faster, and even owners of older iPhone models will get a significant performance boost.
Full-fledged iOS 27 release for all users is traditionally expected this autumn, but for now, let's look at the main innovations that will change the experience of using Apple smartphones.
Second wind for veterans: speed and support for iPhone 11
Apple has pleasantly surprised owners of outdated devices. Thanks to a complete redesign of the system code and deep process optimisation, even the legendary iPhone 11 will receive support for iOS 27, released in 2019.
The company promises that the update will not «slow down» old devices, as was often the case before, but rather breathe new life into them.

Goodbye, liquid glass: customising the interface
The visual style of iOS, which for years relied on the blur effect, is becoming a thing of the past. The company heard users complaining that this effect sometimes overloads the processor and makes it difficult to read text.
Innovations: From now on, the transparency level of interface elements (notification curtains, widgets, folders) can be adjusted manually using a special slider in the settings. This will allow you to make the interface either completely matte and minimalistic, or keep a slight hint of transparency.

You no longer need to download third-party utilities from the App Store. The built-in Calendar app now has an integrated feature menstrual cycle tracking. It fully syncs with the Health app, sends smart notifications, and allows you to conveniently plan your schedule based on your physical condition.
Dream equaliser for AirPods
Music lovers will be delighted. For branded headphones AirPods (from basic to Max) will appear advanced equaliser with fine-tuning of the sound. Instead of standard presets such as «More Bass», users will get full-fledged frequency sliders (Low, Mid, High), which will allow them to adapt the sound to any musical genre or individual hearing characteristics.
Security for the little ones: a new level of child account
Apple continues to develop the family security ecosystem. In iOS 27, a completely updated a child account with advanced parental controls.
Now parents will be able to monitor their child's digital habits in a flexible but unobtrusive way:
