Following a Russian attack overnight, numerous fires and damage have been reported in residential buildings, warehouses and critical infrastructure in Kyiv. Rescue workers are dealing with the aftermath of the strikes; several people, including children, have been rescued, and work is continuing to extinguish the fires and clear the rubble.

Extensive damage in residential areas of Kyiv

Obolon district suffered significant damage: 30 cars and storage facilities caught fire as a result of the strikes, and windows and doors were blown out in residential buildings. A fire broke out in an apartment block, causing damage between the third and fourth floors, and there was a second strike on a nine-storey building. Two people were injured as a result of these strikes and have been handed over to medical staff.

Podil district fires broke out in private and multi-storey residential buildings. Similar fires were also reported in the Pechersk district, where strikes caused roofs to catch fire; in particular, an area of 800 square metres was engulfed in flames at one of the capital’s churches.

Rescue operations and the evacuation of casualties

In Solomianskyi district A nine-storey residential block has been damaged; the fire has spread to the fifth and sixth floors. Twelve people have been rescued, including three children.

In the Shevchenkivskyi district Following a strike on a 25-storey residential building, four people have been rescued, including one woman with burns, who has been handed over to medical staff. The fire has been brought under control.

In the Holosiivskyi district A fire broke out in a warehouse, and a strike on a critical infrastructure facility was also reported.

In the Desnianskyi district An educational establishment was on fire, whilst the Darnytskyi district was affected by falling debris, which subsequently caught fire.

Damage in other areas and the continuation of emergency services

In Sviatoshynskyi district Damage to residential buildings has been reported, but no subsequent fires have broken out. A private residential building in the Dniprovskyi district is also believed to have been damaged. Rescue workers and the relevant services are operating in all the affected areas; details of the damage are still being ascertained.

Clean-up operations are ongoing, with experts assessing the extent of the damage and preventing further fires in order to minimise the impact on the capital’s residents.
