Which target might have been hit?
Ufa is one of the largest oil refining centres in Russia. The city’s oil refining complex, which is part of the Bashneft group — a subsidiary of Rosneft — comprises three sites: «Bashneft-UNPZ», «Bashneft-Novoyl» and «Bashneft-Ufaneftekhim». Their combined declared capacity is 23.5 million tonnes of crude oil per year.
These plants produce petrol, diesel and other petroleum products. Crude oil is delivered there via pipelines and by rail, whilst the finished products are shipped using various modes of transport. Investigations are still underway to determine exactly which of the sites was hit this time.
Potential impact on processing
Damage to production equipment may force the company to scale back certain production processes. The actual impact will depend on whether the fire has affected the processing and refining units, the purification facilities, the logistics infrastructure or other parts of the complex, as well as on the complexity of the repairs.

Ukrmedia In April, citing industry sources, it reported that the CDU-5 primary processing unit at the Novo-Ufa Oil Refinery had been shut down following a previous attack. The latest strike may indicate a continuation of the campaign against Russia’s fuel infrastructure.
The distance from Ufa to Ukraine is over a thousand kilometres. The President Volodymyr Zelenskyy stated in July that Ukraine is stepping up long-range strikes at targets which, according to him, are supporting the Russian war, in particular oil refineries.
