Apple plans to raise iPhone prices as early as 10 August

A potential price review could affect the iPhone 17 range, which has so far been spared from the price rise on Apple devices in June.

Apple may revise the prices of the current iPhone 17 series as early as Monday, 10 August, according to MacRumors, citing the Chinese insider Fixed Focus Digital. The company has not officially announced this decision. It is not known which models and markets will be affected by the potential price change, nor how much the prices will rise.

Briefly about the main points

  • MacRumors has reported rumours regarding changes to Apple’s prices.
  • The information is linked to the Weibo account of Fixed Focus Digital.
  • The current starting prices for the range in the US are between $599 and $1,199.
  • In June, Apple raised the prices of its Macs, iPads and other devices.
  • The industry is predicting a higher price for the iPhone 18 Pro when it launches this autumn.

Which models might be affected by the changes?

The primary source of the information is said to be the Weibo account Fixed Focus Digital, which has previously published details about Apple’s plans and its supply chain. The insider reported on rumours circulating within the industry, rather than a confirmed decision by the manufacturer.

At present, there is no information as to whether prices will be adjusted simultaneously for the iPhone 17e, iPhone 17, iPhone Air, iPhone 17 Pro and iPhone 17 Pro Max. It is also unclear whether the price adjustments will be the same across different countries.

The official starting prices for this range in the US currently start at $599 for iPhone 17e, reaching $1,199 for the iPhone 17 Pro Max.

The price rises in June have already affected Macs and iPads

25 June Apple raised its prices a significant number of devices: MacBook, iMac, Mac mini, Mac Studio, iPad, iPad Air, iPad Pro, HomePod, Apple TV and Vision Pro. The price of the entry-level iPad in the US has risen from $349 to $449, whilst the 11-inch iPad Pro has gone up from $999 to $1,199.

The MacBook Air saw a price increase of at least $200, and the difference was even greater for the top-of-the-range configurations. The reason given for the price review was the sharp rise in the cost of RAM and storage drives, driven by high demand from the artificial intelligence sector.

Apple had previously tried to keep these costs down, but subsequently began passing on part of the rise in production costs to customers.

Smartphones have so far been excluded from the price reviews

During the June sales, prices for the iPhone, Apple Watch and AirPods remained unchanged. At the time, the industry speculated that prices in these categories might rise later on.

According to 9to5Mac, the autumn launch of the new range was considered the most likely time for an iPhone price review. A report by Fixed Focus Digital suggests that the company may adjust its prices sooner than the market had anticipated.

More expensive Pro models and a foldable iPhone are expected this autumn

According to industry forecasts, the starting price iPhone 18 Pro could be around $1,299–$1,399. By way of comparison, the iPhone 17 Pro currently costs from $1,099 in the US. This is a forecast, not a price announced by Apple.

The media have also reported that, following the launch of the new models, the company may not apply the usual significant price reduction to the previous generation. Older models may retain their current price or become slightly more expensive.

The iPhone 18 Pro, iPhone 18 Pro Max and the first foldable iPhone are expected to be unveiled in September. The standard iPhone 18 is not expected to be released until spring 2027, so the iPhone 17 will remain Apple’s mainstream model for longer.
