US President sees economic ways to resolve the war in Ukraine
President of the United States Donald Trump in the comments Fox News said that Vladimir Putin would not agree to end the war without territorial gains, but peace could be possible through economic opportunities and trade.
«Well, he's going to take something - he's already gained some territory,» Trump said when asked if Putin was ready to end the war without getting some of the Ukrainian land.
«The war can end thanks to the potential of trade»
Trump emphasised that he sees «excellent trading potential», which could become a tool for peaceful settlement.
«The war in Ukraine can end with a great potential for trade. This can be a solution that will satisfy everyone,» the US president said.
According to him, economic cooperation can become an alternative to continued military support, which «is not always in the interests of the United States».
«I will not risk America's security»
Trump stressed that is not ready to supply Ukraine with weapons, if it poses a risk to the national security of the United States.
«I don't want to risk America's security. We have to think about our interests first,» he said.
His comments sparked a new wave of criticism among American politicians, who accused Trump of attempts to normalise Russia's territorial concessions.
