On the night of 20 August, Russian forces launched a drone attack on the south of the Odesa region. One of the strikes was recorded near the «Reni–Giurgiulești» international border crossing on the border with Moldova. Fires broke out but were successfully extinguished. According to the latest reports, there were no casualties or injuries. President Volodymyr Zelenskyy reported the attack on the border infrastructure.
Russian drones attacked a border crossing on the border with Moldova
The attack on border infrastructure on the morning of 20 August was reported by Volodymyr Zelenskyy. Subsequently, more detailed information was provided by the local authorities: Russian drones had attacked the Renii community in the Izmail district.
A strike was recorded at a site located near the international road border crossing point «Reni – Giurgulești», which connects Ukraine and Moldova. The attack caused several fires. These were extinguished by the emergency services. According to the Izmail district authorities, There are no fatalities or injuries.

The energy sector in the Odesa region has also been hit
On the night of 19–20 August, Russian troops were carrying out a large-scale attack in the south of the Odesa region. In addition to border infrastructure, civilian and energy facilities were also damaged.

An air-raid alert in various parts of the Odesa region lasted for several hours. In the Izmail district, it was declared at 00:56, and the all-clear was given for the whole region at 06:41.

The attack had repercussions beyond Ukraine’s borders. According to reports citing Moldovan sources, One of the Russian drones entered Moldovan airspace during the attack.
An incident was also reported in Romania: a drone crashed in Tulcea County, near the Ukrainian border.
Consequently, the Russian Federation’s night-time strike on the Odesa region affected not only Ukrainian civilian and energy infrastructure, but also the area along the international border with European countries.
