Families will wait longer
Families of the fallen Ukrainian soldiers are forced to wait up to eight years for compensation payments - instead of three, as it was before.
This was reported by the MP Sofia Fedina, noting that the government's mechanism for financing payments does not have time to process a large number of applications.
«Previously, families received funds for three years, but now this period has been almost tripled - up to eight years. This means that the process will take years,» the MP said.
Reasons for the delay
According to Fedina, increase in the number of applications, bureaucratic procedures and insufficient funding were the main reasons for the increase in waiting times.
The MP stressed that this situation is unacceptable, The families of the fallen heroes are left without proper support from the state.
What we know about payments
This is compensation provided by law for families of servicemen who died while performing combat missions.
The amount of the one-time allowance is 15 million hryvnias, which should be distributed among the family members of the deceased.
Previously, payments were made gradually, but due to budgetary pressures and complicated approvals from the Ministry of Defence, the process has slowed down significantly.
Public reaction
In social media, users call the situation «humiliation of the families of the fallen» and demand that the government speed up the procedures.
Some human rights activists suggest creating a a separate stabilisation fund for guaranteed payments to military families without bureaucratic delays.
