On the night of 15 September, several regions across Russia came under massive drone and missile attacks. A fire broke out at Rosneft’s oil refinery in Syzran«
The first reports of explosions in Syzran began to emerge at around two o’clock in the morning. Local residents posted footage of a bright glow and a massive fire in the industrial part of the town.
OSINT sources and Russian Telegram channels reported that the target of the attack was The Syzran Oil Refinery, which is part of Rosneft. According to preliminary reports, several fires broke out on the site, and oil product storage tanks were cited as among the facilities that may have been affected.
Governor of the Samara Region Vyacheslav Fedoryshchev confirmed a large-scale attack. According to him, the region was hit overnight by more than 40 drones.
The Russian official also acknowledged that one industrial facility and several residential buildings had been damaged. According to him, there were no fatalities. However, he did not specify the name of the facility that had been attacked.
The Syzran oil refinery has been attacked on several occasions
Syzran Oil Refinery is one of the major companies in the Russian oil industry. Its design capacity is approximately 8.5 million tonnes of oil per year.
The company produces more than 20 types of petroleum products, including motor fuel and bitumen. The products of Russian oil refineries are also used to meet the needs of the Russian Armed Forces.
The plant has been targeted on several occasions. In particular, following one of the previous strikes in July, the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine reported that two crude oil processing units had been damaged — AVT-5 and AVT-6.
The Beriev factory in Taganrog may have been hit
Almost simultaneously, explosions were heard in Taganrog, in the Rostov Region. The Russian authorities declared a missile alert in the city, after which local media reported a series of explosions and the activation of air defence systems.
According to preliminary information from OSINT sources, one of the targets may have been The G. M. Beriev Taganrog Aviation Scientific and Technical Complex. Following the attack, a fire was reported in the area around the factory.
At the time of publication, there is no official confirmation that the Beriev complex was directly hit.
At the same time, the Governor of the Rostov Region Yuriy Slyusar reported damage to a logistics centre in Taganrog Ozon, agricultural enterprises’ warehouses, a gas pipeline, residential buildings, an educational establishment and other facilities.
The A-50 and Tu-95MS are being repaired at the aircraft factory
The Beriev-named TANTK is of great importance to the Russian military aviation sector. The company designs, repairs and modernises aircraft.
In particular, work is being carried out there involving Russian long-range radar detection aircraft A-50, as well as strategic bombers Tu-95MS, which Russia is using to launch cruise missiles at Ukraine.
The complex in Taganrog had already been the target of previous attacks. The latest night-time attack took place against a backdrop of systematic strikes on Russian oil refineries and military-industrial facilities.
