Riot breaks out in Ulyanovsk region: hundreds of nuclear facility workers protest over unpaid wages

In the city Dimitrovgrad, Ulyanovsk region, Russia flashed mass labour revolt, who are building a new a research nuclear facility based on the MBIR reactor (multipurpose fast reactor).
According to local sources, more than 300 employees of the company «Institute of Orgenergostroy» are protesting over many months of salary arrears.

The construction workers have blocked the site and refuse to come to work, demanding repayment of debts and an official response from management.
Representatives of the police and regional administration arrived at the scene, but the situation remains tense.

«We are promised money every week, but have not been paid for several months. People have nothing to feed their families with,» one of the protesters was quoted as saying by the Telegram channel Aster.


JSC «Institute Orgenergostroy» is the main contractor of the project, which the Kremlin calls «revolutionary».
Vladimir Putin personally represented IBIR as a symbol of a “new technological breakthrough” in the field of nuclear research and stated that it would be used to create International Research Centre.

However, the facility has now become another example of The crisis in the Russian industrial sector, which is suffering from sanctions, lack of funding and staff outflows.
