Lavrov: Russia is ready for Trump-Putin meeting, Budapest suggests

Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation Sergey Lavrov said that Russia ready to resume discussions on a possible meeting between us president donald trump and william putin, Russian state media reported.

Lavrov called Budapest as the “optimal location” to hold such a summit, stressing that the Russian side «is always open to dialogue if there is a political will of the United States».

Nuclear threats and the rhetoric of war

During his speech, the Russian Foreign Minister also said that If one of the nuclear powers conducts a nuclear weapons test, Russia will “do the same”.

At the same time, Lavrov repeated the Kremlin's standard propaganda rhetoric, emphasising that the so-called «demilitarisation and denazification of Ukraine» remain “prerequisites” for ending the war.

«Zelenskyy demonstrates by his actions that he is a Nazi, there is no evidence to the contrary,» Lavrov said, repeating the Kremlin's theses.

Context.

The statement came amid reports of a possible renewal of diplomatic contacts between Washington and Moscow after informal consultations in which the parties discuss potential venues for negotiations.

The Trump administration has not publicly commented on the initiative, but the White House has previously stated that any dialogue is possible only after the cessation of aggression against Ukraine.
