NEURC plans to increase Ukrenergo's tariff for 2026 by 15%: market participants warn of risks
At the next NEURC meeting, it is planned to consider a draft resolution that may increase Ukrenergo's electricity transmission tariff in 2026 by 15% - up to 785 UAH/MWh.
The current tariff is UAH 686/MWh.
This information is contained in the materials for the meeting of the regulator.
What market participants say
Some representatives of the energy sector and the expert community say that there are grounds to keep the tariff at the current level, and the increase may be due to «unjustified expenses» included in the company's budget.
Experts suggest that there may be items in the cost structure that significantly increase the overall financial burden on consumers, including loan servicing. According to their estimates, this could cost Ukrainian consumers about UAH 10 billion per year.
Parallels with previous scandals
Some market participants draw analogies with the situation at Energoatom, where they saw a sharp increase in funding earlier, and later the emergence of contracting schemes and inefficient spending.
In particular, accusations are being made in the public domain against certain Ukrenergo managers regarding a possible increase in costs, particularly in the loan repayment block. Market representatives believe that this could be the basis for «redistribution of funds through contractors».
All these statements are currently not confirmed by official investigations.
Regulatory response and political context
Industry sources suggest that the current composition of the NEURC, including the commission's chairman, may demonstrate loyalty to the position of the leadership of the Ministry of Finance. The regulator itself does not comment on these statements.
Official documents on the tariff are to be considered at a meeting on 5 December. The Commission's decision will be crucial for the financial model of Ukrenergo's operation in 2026.
