Drone attack on the Ryazan refinery: local authorities say debris is falling«

On the night of 6 December, another drone attack on industrial facilities took place in the Ryazan region. According to Russian Telegram channels, the drones hit the territory of the Ryazan Oil Refinery, one of the key elements of Russia's fuel infrastructure.

The released footage shows plumes of black smoke and a fire over the industrial area. The video, presumably made by an eyewitness, captures the moment of the explosion against the backdrop of the refinery's distinctive structures. The geolocation confirms that it is the Ryazan complex.

What the Russian authorities and the governor say

Officials in the region have traditionally claimed that air defence facilities «shot down the UAV in the air», and that only fragments of the drone allegedly fell to the ground.

According to the governor Pavel Malkov, He said that «as a result of the falling debris», smoke was created in several districts of the city, which was «promptly eliminated». According to him, there were no injuries, and the authorities are assessing the material damage.

At the same time, the region imposed a ban on the publication of any photos and videos of the aftermath of the attack, a standard practice for Russian regions after attacks on military and critical facilities.

The footage shows the refinery's distinctive structures

OSINT community analysts compared the elements of industrial towers, pipes and technical blocks in the video with open source images of the Ryazan refinery - there were complete matches.

This indicates that the strike occurred directly on the territory of the plant or within its infrastructure, and not «debris fell on a wasteland» as the official authorities claim.

Context.

The Ryazan refinery is one of the largest oil refineries in Russia and an important element of the Central Federal District's fuel supply. Any damage to this facility could affect the domestic fuel market and logistics.
