Czech President Pavel admits the possibility of shooting down a Russian drone or aircraft in the future
President of the Czech Republic Peter Paul said that Europe may in the future move to tougher actions in response to Russia's provocations, including the possible downing of a Russian drone or aircraft. He said this in an interview, commenting on regular Russian incidents near NATO's borders, according to Yevropeiska Pravda.
Details of the application
Pavel stressed that Russian airspace violations and other attempts to put pressure on neighbouring states are intentional and well-planned actions, aimed at testing the West's readiness to respond decisively.
The President believes that the Alliance has the right to respond much more forcefully than it has done in the past.
«NATO has good reason to respond much more forcefully than it has so far,» Pavel said.
Why the issue has become relevant
Recently, EU countries have reported a growing number of incidents involving Russian drones and aircraft near the Alliance's borders. In some cases, Russian drones have flown into the territories of member states, posing risks to civilian and military security.
According to Pavel, such incidents may encourage allies to take more decisive steps in the future.
