Poland has been granted an exemption from the EU migration scheme due to costs and the number of Ukrainian
The EU interior ministers agreed to provide Poland temporary exemption from implementing the EU's migration scheme, which provides for the redistribution of migrants between member states. The decision was made during a meeting in Brussels, Polskie Radio reports.
In the case of Poland, ministers took into account two key factors:
High costs of defending the eastern border with Belarus,
receiving a significant number of refugees from Ukraine, who have been in the country since the beginning of the full-scale war.
Who else was released
In addition to Poland, other countries received temporary exemptions:
Austria,
Croatia,
Czech Republic,
Estonia.
These states reported an excessive burden on their migration systems and budgets.
How the EU migration scheme works
Under the current mechanism, EU countries must either:
accept migrants from states that have experienced an excess of migrants,
orpay 20,000 euros for each person, They will not accept it.
Temporary exemption means that these countries are not required to comply with these rules for a certain period.
