«Window of Silence» allows restoration of key power line to ZNPP - IAEA
A temporary «window of silence» allowed for the successful restoration of a key power line that supplies power Zaporizhzhya Nuclear Power Plant. This was stated by the CEO IAEA Raphael Grossi.
Details of the work
According to the IAEA, the repair work started on Sunday morning and was completed on Monday afternoon. The specialists completely repaired the damage to the power line and also eliminated a separate malfunction of an autotransformer at the ZNPP distribution station.
The works were carried out under the security guarantees of the local ceasefire between Ukraine and Russia, which allowed the repair teams to safely reach the facility and carry out all the necessary technical measures.
Context.
The IAEA has repeatedly emphasised that a stable external power supply is critical for the nuclear safety of Zaporizhzhya NPP. Damage to power lines as a result of the hostilities posed serious risks to the operation of the plant's cooling and safety systems.
Grossi emphasised that such «windows of silence» are vital for maintaining nuclear safety in times of war.
