Zelenskyy: Russia damaged civilian infrastructure, energy and Qatar's embassy

Attack on civilian objects and diplomatic infrastructure

The Head of State stressed that the shelling was aimed at «the ordinary life of ordinary people» as the country enters a cold snap and the load on the energy system increases.

Among the damaged facilities:

  • civilian infrastructure;

  • energy facilities;

  • the building of the Embassy of Qatar.

Zelensky stressed that such actions by Russia create additional risks to the stability of energy supply and the safety of civilians.

Confirmation of the use of Oreshnik«

The President also confirmed that the Russian side had used a weapon known as Oreshnik during the attack. Details on the type of damage and the extent of the destruction are being clarified by the relevant services.

Ukrainian experts continue to assess the impact and carry out restoration work at the damaged facilities.

Reaction and further actions

The authorities are coordinating the actions of emergency services and energy companies to stabilise the situation. International partners are also being informed about the damage to diplomatic infrastructure and another escalation by Russia.

Additional official information on the extent of the damage and possible consequences for the power system is expected.

Context.

Russia has been systematically targeting Ukraine's energy and civilian infrastructure to destabilise the economy, put pressure on the population and complicate the heating season. Some of the attacks occur during periods of severe cold weather, which increases the risk of accidents and humanitarian problems.

Ukraine has repeatedly called on its international partners to strengthen its air defence and put pressure on Russia.
