SBU Alpha unit sets record for destroying Russian drones
Special Forces «Alpha» Ukraine's Security Service has set a new record for efficiency in countering Russian aircraft-type drones. By the end of the year, interceptor crews destroyed 2220 enemy drones.
This was reported by the SBU, noting that this is the highest performance indicator among units operating in this segment of air defence.
What drones were destroyed
The targets include both attack and reconnaissance drones, which Russia is actively using to attack civilian cities and gather intelligence:
«Shahed and Geranium»
«Molniya»
«Lancet»
«The Hall»
«Orlan»
«Merlin»
«Italmas»
«Skat»
The SBU emphasises that these drones are regularly used for aerial terror and to adjust strikes on Ukrainian infrastructure.
«Fat targets
The intelligence service also noted the destruction of so-called «fat» targets - Russian medium-altitude, long-range reconnaissance UAVs of the Orion type.
The cost of one such drone exceeds 5 million USD, This makes their loss particularly significant for the Russian military budget.
Context.
The destruction of Russian drones remains one of the key elements of protecting Ukrainian skies, especially against the backdrop of constant attacks by kamikaze drones and reconnaissance UAVs. The SBU Alpha unit plays an important role in neutralising this threat.
