China to provide additional humanitarian energy aid to Ukraine
China decides to provide Ukraine with an additional package humanitarian energy assistance. This was announced by the Minister for Foreign Affairs of Ukraine Andriy Sibiga following the meeting with the head of the Chinese Foreign Ministry Wang Yi on the sidelines of the Munich Security Conference.
What the parties discussed
During the talks, the Ukrainian side informed the Chinese diplomat of the following:
the situation at the frontline;
large-scale Russia's attacks on Ukraine's energy infrastructure;
losses incurred by Chinese companies as a result of Russian strikes.
In response, Beijing announced its readiness to provide a new humanitarian support package for the energy sector.
Context.
Ukraine's power system is regularly subject to Russian missile and drone attacks, which have damaged generation, substations and networks. International assistance, including equipment to restore power supply, remains critical for the heating season and the stable operation of the infrastructure.
China has previously provided humanitarian aid to Ukraine, but its future role in energy recovery is in the focus of international diplomacy.
