China can quickly stop war if it influences Russia - US ambassador to NATO
China could actually end the Russian war against Ukraine, if it had a direct impact on the Russian leadership. This was stated by the US Ambassador to NATO Matthew Whitaker.
According to him, Beijing is able to quickly change the situation, in particular through direct contact with Vladimir Putin.
What levers does China have?
The American diplomat stressed that China's key instruments of influence could be:
Cessation of supplies to Russia dual-purpose technologies;
refusal to make purchases Russian oil and gas;
political pressure on the Kremlin to cessation of aggression.
According to the United States, such steps could to significantly limit Moscow's ability to continue the war.
