A new service — online divorce via the «Diya» app — could be launched in Ukraine by the end of summer 2026. Deputy Minister of Justice Olga Ryabukha announced the start of beta testing.

Briefly about the main points
  • Online divorce via «Diyu» could be launched by the end of the summer.
  • Beta testing will begin in two weeks with 250 pairs.
  • The service is available only to married couples without minor children.
  • Both parties must agree to the dissolution of the marriage.
  • The divorce certificate will be sent by post.

How will divorce proceedings work via «Diyu»?»

Deputy Minister of Justice Olga Ryabukha announced that testing of the new service is set to begin in just two weeks. After around a month of trials, the feature may become available to all Ukrainians. To use the service, one spouse submits an application via the «Diya» app and provides the other spouse’s details. The system verifies passport details, tax identification number and information from state registers.

The next step will be to choose a date for the video conference, pay the administrative fee and have both parties sign the application using «Diya. Sign». Once the procedure is complete, the certificate of divorce will be sent by post.

Who can use the service?

The service will have several important restrictions. It will be available to only Ukrainian citizens aged 18 or over, spouses who do not have any minor children together, a husband and wife who both consent to the dissolution of their marriage, as well as individuals who hold valid digital documents and have a «Diya. Signature». If the couple have minor children or if there is a dispute regarding the children’s property or place of residence, the divorce will have to be finalised through the courts.

How to get a divorce in Ukraine at present

There are currently two main ways to get a divorce in Ukraine: through the Civil Registry Office and through the courts. A marriage can be dissolved through the Civil Registry Office if both spouses agree to the divorce and there are no joint minor children. In this case, a joint application is submitted, a government fee is paid, and the marriage is officially dissolved after one month. The court procedure is used if one of the spouses does not consent to the divorce, there are joint minor children, or there are disputes regarding property, maintenance or the children’s place of residence.

What documents are required for an online divorce?

Once the service is launched, users will need a Ukrainian passport, their taxpayer registration number (IPN), the «Diya» app with «Diya. Signature» app, as well as confirmation of both parties’ consent to the divorce.

Is it possible to change your mind?

Once the application has been submitted, a mandatory waiting period begins — 31 days plus one additional day. During this time, either spouse may withdraw the application or decide not to proceed with the divorce. Only once this period has ended and their intentions have been confirmed during a video conference will the divorce decree be drawn up.
