On the night of 30 September, Russia launched a new, large-scale missile attack on Kyiv and the surrounding region. A series of powerful explosions rocked the capital, after which residents in some areas, notably the Left Bank, began reporting that their water supply had been cut off. In the Obolon district, a fire broke out inside a shop, whilst in the Holosiivskyi district, a warehouse building caught fire. The full extent of the damage is still being assessed.

Around 20 missiles were fired at Kyiv — preliminary estimate
The main phase of the attack took place in the dead of night. A series of explosions rang out one after another in the capital, whilst the Air Force issued warnings about the threat of ballistic missiles.
According to preliminary estimates by Ukrainian monitoring organisations, Russia may have used up to 22 missiles of various types.
Preliminary reports indicate:
- up to 6–8 «Zircon»/«Onyx-M» missiles;
- around 2 KN-23 missiles;
- 4–6 RM-48U missiles;
- up to 8 «Iskander-M» missiles.
According to monitoring channels, some of the missiles were launched from areas in the Kursk, Voronezh and Bryansk regions of the Russian Federation. These figures is not yet an official Air Force statistic and may be revised once the attack has concluded and the data has been analysed. For this reason, the final composition of the Russian strike, as reported in the Air Force’s morning briefing, should be regarded as provisional.
Water supplies were cut off in parts of Kyiv following the explosions
Almost immediately after the series of explosions, residents of the Left Bank began reporting that their water supply had been cut off.
Local news outlets have also reported that there was no water following the rocket attack. At the time of writing, there had been no official information from «Kyivvodokanal» regarding the extent of the incident or the cause of the disruption.
Earlier, during Russian strikes There have already been instances involving Kyiv’s energy infrastructure where the operation of pumping equipment had to be temporarily suspended, resulting in water cuts on the Left Bank and a drop in water pressure on the Right Bank.
It is therefore too early to talk of a prolonged water cut at this stage — the situation is still being assessed.
Fires have broken out in the Obolon and Holosiivskyi districts
Following the attack, reports of fires and damage began to come in from various parts of the capital.
- According to preliminary information from the city’s military administration, a fire has broken out inside a shop in the Obolon district.
- A fire has been reported in a warehouse in the Holosiivskyi district. Emergency and rescue services are on the scene.
Details regarding possible casualties, the area affected by the fires and the extent of the damage are being confirmed.
The Kyiv region was hit
The missile attack was not directed solely at the capital. Monitoring sources reported missiles heading towards Kyiv and the Kyiv region, as well as possible attacks on energy infrastructure facilities.
At present, not all reports of specific locations where strikes have occurred have been officially confirmed; therefore, the exact targets and consequences of the strikes should be assessed once information has been received from the regional authorities, the State Emergency Service and the energy companies.
Air strikes on Kyiv have intensified significantly in recent days. In the days leading up to this, Russia had already deployed «Zircon»/«Onyx» missiles, «Iskander-M» missiles and a large number of attack drones, including jet-powered ones, against Ukraine.
At the time of writing, the consequences of the latest night-time strike are still being assessed.
