On the night of 12 September, the Russian city of Taganrog came under another attack. Monitoring sources reported several fires in the city, including at the military airfield and near the military town. Separately, there were reports of a fire in the area of the former Taganrog Motor Vehicle Plant, where the production of drones for the Russian army had previously been documented. The extent of the damage is being assessed.

Fires broke out at the airfield and near the military town
Monitoring channel Exilenova+ Overnight, he posted several videos from Taganrog showing at least two separate fires. At around 04:00, the channel reported that the following were under attack: airfield and military town, where the fire was still burning at that time.
Earlier that same night, the channel reported several fires in various parts of the city and broadcast footage of two separate blazes.
As of the morning of 12 September, the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine had not provided specific details regarding the consequences of this particular night-time attack on Taganrog, so the exact list of affected sites and the extent of the damage have yet to be confirmed.
A fire has also been reported in the area of the Taganrog car factory
Some OSINT sources and local public groups point to the area of the former The Taganrog Motor Plant — TagAZ.
This site has come under the spotlight on more than one occasion due to its military production activities. Previously, OSINT analysts reported that the «Atlant Aero» company operates on the site of the former car factory, producing «Molniya» strike and reconnaissance UAVs and components for «Orion» drones.
In April 2026, the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine had already officially reported that the «Atlant Aero» in Taganrog and a fire in the area around its production buildings.
The Taganrog airfield was attacked a few days ago
Taganrog has been the target of Ukrainian attacks on several occasions in recent days.
On the night of 7 September, drones attacked a military airfield «Taganrog-Central». NASA FIRMS data then detected a fire in the aircraft parking area. This airbase is home to the 325th Aircraft Repair Plant, which carries out repairs on transport aircraft and components for the Il-76.
Subsequent analysis of satellite imagery revealed that the strike may have destroyed one Russian Mi-8 helicopter and damaged an Mi-35.
In addition, on 11 September, the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine confirmed that a target had been struck in the Taganrog area two «Pantsir-S1» anti-aircraft missile and gun systems».
Taganrog is of great importance to the Russian military aviation
There are several facilities in and around the city linked to the Russian military aviation and defence industries.
There are aircraft maintenance facilities operating near «Taganrog-Central», whilst further south lies the Beriev Taganrog Aviation Scientific and Technical Complex, where A-50U, Il-76 and Il-38 aircraft are repaired and modernised.
That is precisely why military and industrial sites in Taganrog are regularly targeted by Ukrainian long-range strikes.
