US Presidential Administration Donald Trump announced new requirements for migrants residing in the country under the Temporary Protected Status (TPS) programme. The Minister for Home Affairs Mark Wayne Mallin pointed out that the programme TPS is temporary and does not confer the right to permanent residence. Consequently, migrants are offered two options: to apply for permanent legal status or to return voluntarily to their home countries.
«We are giving people with TPS the opportunity to remain in the country legally, but only on condition that they apply for permanent status,» said Mullin.
In the event of voluntary repatriation, the US government is prepared to pay for the flight and provide approximately 2,100 dollars to help with settling in upon return.
