Zelensky: security guarantees should be ratified before signing peace

President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy said that security guarantees for Ukraine should be ratified by the US Congress before a peace agreement with Russia is signed.

Position on Trump's proposal

According to the head of state, Donald Trump seeks to sign a peace agreement and a security package at the same time during the ceremony. However, Kyiv insists on a different sequence.

«I insist that the guarantees must first be ratified by the US Congress,» Zelenskyy said.

The President stressed that Ukraine needs clear mechanisms to respond to possible new Russian aggression, not declarations.

«I want to hear a clear answer as to what the partners will do if Russia invades again, not assurances that there will be no war,» he said.

Conditions on the front line

Zelenskyy noted that Ukraine is ready to consider the option of freezing the war along the current frontline as one of the possible scenarios.

At the same time, he stressed Kyiv's principled position. Ukraine categorically refuses to withdraw its troops from the government-controlled territories of Donetsk region.

Context.

Discussions about possible parameters for ending the war have intensified amid diplomatic contacts between the West and Ukraine. Kyiv has consistently insisted on legally binding security guarantees as a key condition for any agreement with Russia.
