Energy shock: Britain is almost out of gas
У United Kingdom Natural gas reserves could be exhausted as early as two days amid disruptions in the global energy market. This is reported by the Daily Mail.
Sharp reduction in inventory
According to the publication, the country's underground storage facilities currently contain only 6700 GWh of gas, which is enough for about one and a half days of consumption.
For comparison, last year in the same period reserves were about 18,000 GWh.
Reasons for the shortage
Among the key factors that caused the crisis:
disruptions in energy supplies due to the war in Middle East
problems with the logistics of LNG tankers
redirecting gas supplies to Asian markets due to higher prices
Reduced supply from certain regions
Another important factor is the situation around Strait of Hormuz, which is a key route for energy transportation.
Britain is more vulnerable than Europe
Experts point out that other European countries have much larger gas reserves, which can be enough for a few weeks.
Instead United Kingdom has limited underground storage and is heavily dependent on gas imports from Norway and USA.
Prices are already rising
Amid the risk of shortages, traders are actively raising prices.
According to analysts, London already pays the highest wholesale gas prices in Europe.
