Members of the Verkhovna Rada supported in the first reading the draft law 15111-d, which introduces a 5% tax on the sale of second-hand goods through OLX and similar online platforms. 234 MPs voted in favour of the innovation, which may lead to higher prices for ordinary Ukrainians. Political experts have already called this step one of the most scandalous decisions of the parliament.

How the new tax on OLX will work

Starting today, every transaction for the sale of second-hand items on platforms such as OLX, Shafa or Prom will be subject to 5% tax. Draft Law 15111-d provides that the tax will be levied on both individuals and legal entities, regardless of the number of transactions. This means that even a one-off sale of used equipment or clothing will become more expensive for both the seller and the buyer.

Who supported the tax and why it matters

The majority of factions voted for the new tax: «Servant of the People» (174 votes), «Platform for Life and Peace» (10), «Voice» (8), «Restoration of Ukraine» (12), «For the Future» (5) and «Trust» (16). The Batkivshchyna faction did not cast a single vote. Experts believe that the adoption of this draft law is one of the requirements of the IMF, as well as the previous scandalous law adopted recently. What will happen to prices for things online

The introduction of the 5% tax on OLX and similar platforms, according to analysts, will lead to an increase in prices for second-hand items. Sellers will include additional costs in the price of goods, which will hit the pockets of ordinary Ukrainians looking for bargains online. Platforms are already preparing new rules for users to avoid tax evasion.
