The parliamentary elections in Sweden scheduled for 13 September do not pose a threat to financial and military support for Ukraine. This was stated by Deputy Minister of Finance and Minister of Financial Markets Niklas Wikman, who emphasised the unity of Swedish society in supporting the Ukrainian people.
Swedish government's position on the parliamentary elections

This was stated by Niklas Wickman, Minister of Financial Markets and representative of the Moderaterna party, during a rally in central Stockholm. For. information Interfax-Ukraine, Wickman stressed that political unity in support of Ukraine is an important signal to the international community and to Russia.
According to the official, even in an election year, when society may have different opinions on many topics, the issue of support for Ukraine unites the political spectrum. Wikman stressed that the blue and yellow commitment to Ukraine's freedom and security remains unchanged for all major political forces in Sweden.
Amount of support and its significance
Sweden has already provided over SEK 100 billion to Ukraine military aid, equivalent to $10.7 billion at current exchange rates. This assistance covers 21 military support packages, which include 45 different military systems. In addition, more than 25 billion kroons have been allocated to support civilians and training programmes for the Ukrainian military and civilians.
Wikman noted that the government's assistance is complemented by the active volunteer work of Swedish citizens themselves. According to him, the Swedes are organising fundraisers and humanitarian aid for Ukraine on their own, which strengthens the overall support at all levels of society.
The impact of the elections on the policy of support for Ukraine
The Minister of Financial Markets stressed that the elections will not change the government's principled position in support of Ukraine. He stressed that joint assistance strengthens both Ukraine in its fight against Russian aggression and Sweden itself, enhancing its economic resilience and international credibility.
According to Wickman, decisions to support Ukraine are based on the will of voters who understand the importance of democracy and freedom. He also noted that this solidarity inspires the Ukrainian military and civilians who fight for their country every day.
Why it matters
Maintaining Sweden's steadfast support for Ukraine is key to Ukraine's defence capability and social resilience. The unity of political forces and civil society in Sweden sends a powerful signal to the international community about the unwavering European solidarity.
Financial and military assistance, which does not depend on domestic political processes, allows Ukraine to count on long-term support in its fight against Russian aggression. This position also strengthens Sweden itself, increasing its role in regional security and international politics.
