In Ukraine, local governments now have the opportunity to independently fund air defence groups as part of volunteer formations of territorial communities. The Cabinet of Ministers has approved the relevant changes to the pilot project. The operational management of these units will remain with the Air Force of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, and the mechanism for paying additional remuneration to air defence group members has also been clarified.
What has changed for communities
From now on, local councils can directly allocate funds for the needs of air defence groups, This was made possible by updating the procedure for implementing the pilot project approved by the government.
Operational control remains with the Armed Forces of Ukraine
Despite the new financial opportunities for local governments, the Air Force of Ukraine will continue to provide operational command of air defence groups. This approach allows for coordination of the actions of volunteer units with the overall system of air defence.
Payments for the destruction of targets
The government resolution also defines the procedure for paying additional remuneration to air defence group members. The basis for receiving such remuneration is a confirmed fact of defeating or destroying an air target. This should stimulate the efficiency of the units in the field.
