The Pechersk court has taken into custody five people suspected of corruptly covering up the activities of a network of so-called «porn offices». The detainees include the heads of regional police departments from Ivano-Frankivsk, Ternopil and Zhytomyr, as well as a former driver of one of the Deputy Ministers of Internal Affairs. Bail for each of the suspects ranges from over one million to eight million hryvnias.
Suspects - who are they?
According to the Office of the Prosecutor General, the head of the Ivano-Frankivsk Oblast National Police (bail is UAH 7 million), his deputy (UAH 5 million), the first deputy head of the Investigation Department of the Ternopil Oblast National Police (UAH 5 million), the deputy head of the Zhytomyr Oblast National Police (UAH 1,164,000) and the former driver of one of the Deputy Interior Ministers, Volodymyr Vorobey (UAH 8 million), were taken into custody.
The essence of the case and the position of the OGP
According to the investigation, these individuals may have been involved in organising a corruption scheme to cover up the activities of a network of «porn offices» in Ukraine. The Prosecutor General's Office announced this on its official Telegram channel, stressing that the investigation is ongoing, and the court has imposed a measure of restraint in the form of detention with the possibility of bail.
Security deposits and further actions
All suspects may be released if they post bail amounts set by the court. The highest amount - UAH 8 million - was set for the ex-driver of one of the deputy ministers. Other bails range from UAH 1.164 million to UAH 7 million. It is known that the pre-trial investigation is ongoing, and the PGO does not disclose additional details about the role of each suspect in the case.
