Basic context

On the night of 24 May, Kyiv came under massive shelling by Russian troops. The shelling caused a fire in a two-storey dormitory in Darnytskyi district, where rescuers are evacuating residents and extinguishing the fire.

A school caught fire in Shevchenkivskyi district, and a five-storey residential building had its entranceway destroyed and then caught fire. The building of a business centre and the territory of a market were hit, where a fire also broke out.

In the same part of the city, a shell hit one of the nine-storey residential buildings between the eighth and ninth floors, resulting in the death of a person. Rescuers extinguished a fire in another nine-storey building, and are also recording damage to the museum building of the Main Directorate of the State Emergency Service in Kyiv region.

In the Pechersk district, a 20-storey new building and a nearby change house are on fire, confirming the scale of the destruction across the city.

Information about casualties is being clarified, but one person was killed in Shevchenkivskyi district.
