Dangerous cluster munitions and a cluster bomb were discovered in a maize field near the «Gogoliv» airfield in the Brovary district. No one was injured.
Mini-petal mines were found in a field near the airfield
Dangerous anti-personnel mines have been discovered in the village of Gogoliv, Brovary District, Kyiv Region. The discovery was reported on 14 August 2026.
Whilst inspecting a maize field near the «Gogoliv» airfield, experts discovered approximately 20 red «Pelyustka» anti-personnel mines, also known as «butterfly» mines. A cassette, from which the munitions may have been dispersed, was also found at the site.
No damage or injuries were reported as a result of the incident. A request has been made for the pyrotechnic unit to remove the explosive devices.
What makes the «Petal» landmine so dangerous?»
The PFM-1 «Pelyustka» is a small pressure-activated anti-personnel mine. Due to its distinctive shape and bright colour, it can be mistaken for a piece of plastic or some other harmless object.
Such mines may be difficult to spot amongst grass, leaves, soil and crops. They pose a deadly danger to both adults and children. It is strictly forbidden to step on, touch or attempt to move the munition yourself.
What to do if you find a suspicious object
Residents of Gogolev and the surrounding villages are advised to be particularly careful and watch their step, especially when in fields, plantations and near the airfield.
If you spot a suspicious object, you must:
- stop and do not approach him;
- do not touch, move or cover the object;
- warn people in the vicinity of the danger;
- move to a safe distance via the same route;
- make a note of where it was found;
- call the following numbers 101 or 102.
