Hot water supply disruptions have occurred in the Desnianskyi and parts of the Dniprovskyi districts of Kyiv following a Russian attack on a critical infrastructure facility. City services are already working to repair the damaged facility, the capital’s mayor, Vitali Klitschko, has said.

Briefly about the main points

  • Russia has attacked a critical infrastructure site in Kyiv.
  • Hot water supply disruptions are possible in two districts.
  • Experts are already repairing the damaged infrastructure.

Russia has deliberately targeted Kyiv’s critical infrastructure

According to Klitschko, the strike took place in the afternoon of 20 August. The mayor emphasised that this in fact, the first targeted Russian attack on a critical infrastructure facility in the capital in the last few months.

Following the blast, problems with the hot water supply were reported in the Desnianskyi district and part of the Dniprovskyi district. The city authorities have not yet specified the exact boundaries of the areas affected by the disruptions.

Experts are working at the damaged facility and are trying to restore its operation as quickly as possible. No timeframe has yet been given for the full restoration of the hot water supply.

Kyiv has been under Russian attack for the past 24 hours

Problems with the hot water arose after a large-scale attack by the Russian Federation on the capital, which began last night. Russian forces used various types of missiles and drones against Kyiv.

The strikes and falling debris caused damage to residential and non-residential buildings, fires and numerous casualties. The attacks continued during the day: in the Holosiivskyi district, a fire broke out after debris from a UAV fell on a business centre; one fatality and two injuries were reported.

Thus, the strike on critical infrastructure marked yet another episode in the sustained attack on Kyiv on 20 August.

Utility services are repairing the damaged infrastructure

At present, the city authorities have not announced a complete cut-off of the hot water supply across the entire left bank. The problem affects the Desnianskyi district and part of the Dniprovskyi district.

Klitschko stated that specialists are already working to deal with the aftermath of the strike. Residents of the areas affected by the disruption should keep an eye on updates from the city authorities and utility services.
