Russian troops during the night Attacked the «Starokozache» international border crossing on the Ukrainian-Moldovan border with strike drones. This was reported by the State Border Guard Service of Ukraine on the morning of 9 September. Drones struck infrastructure at the border crossing point and the surrounding area. Fires broke out following the strikes. There are fatalities and injuries amongst the civilians who were near the checkpoint. The border guards did not specify the exact number of victims at the time of the initial report.

Drones struck a border crossing on the border with Moldova
According to the State Border Guard Service, the attack took place during the night. Russian attack drones struck buildings and other infrastructure at the international road border crossing point. The surrounding area was also damaged. A photograph released by the State Border Guard Service shows debris around the checkpoint building and damaged structural elements.
The «Starokozache – Tudora» stop is situated in Bilhorod-Dnistrovskyi District, Odesa Oblast and provides road transport connections between Ukraine and Moldova.
There are casualties and injuries amongst the civilians
The most serious consequence of the attack was the loss of life amongst people who were near the checkpoint at the time of the strike.
The State Border Guard Service has confirmed the existence of civilian deaths and injuries, however, as of the morning of 9 September, the final figures had not been released. The death toll may therefore be revised once the emergency services have completed their work.
«Starokozache» has been temporarily closed
Following the Russian attack The processing of citizens and vehicles at this border crossing has been suspended. Ukrainian border guards have informed the Moldovan side of the situation. It is not yet known exactly when the border crossing point will be able to resume operations. Travellers planning to cross the Ukrainian-Moldovan border should keep an eye on updates from the State Border Guard Service and, where possible, choose alternative border crossing points until an official announcement is made regarding the resumption of operations at «Starokozachyi».
Russia continues to carry out strikes on civilian infrastructure
The attack on the border post was yet another strike by the Russian Federation against civilian transport infrastructure.
The day before, on 8 September, Russian forces attacked Kyiv and other regions of Ukraine with missiles and drones. Passenger trains and other civilian targets were also hit. Reuters reported that there were fatalities and dozens of casualties as a result of the massive attack.
