The Russians have completely destroyed the «Amstor» shopping centre in Zaporizhzhia

Following a strike by a Russian drone, a fire broke out in the shopping centre, covering an area of over 10,000 square metres.

In Zaporizhzhia, the «Amstor» shopping centre on the city’s right bank was destroyed as a result of a Russian attack. On the evening of 17 September, a Russian drone struck the shopping complex, causing a major fire. As of the morning of 18 September, the Ministry of Internal Affairs reported that one person had been injured. Firefighters extinguished the blaze, which covered an area of over 10,000 square metres.

A Russian drone struck a shopping centre

The attack took place late in the evening on 17 September. The acting head of the Zaporizhzhia Regional State Administration Mikhail Semikin reported an attack on a supermarket on the right bank of Zaporizhzhia and a major fire.

According to information released by the local authorities, it has emerged that this concerns «Amstor» shopping centre». Following the strike, the flames spread rapidly through the building. Local media reported this morning that the complex had effectively been destroyed as a result of a direct hit and the ensuing fire.

The fire was put out whilst there was a risk of further outbreaks

The State Emergency Service reported that the area affected by the fire exceeded 10,000 square metres.

The rescue workers’ operations had to be interrupted on several occasions due to the threat of further Russian strikes. Whenever danger arose, the personnel would take shelter, after which they would resume clearing up the aftermath of the attack.

By the morning of 18 September, the fire had been completely extinguished and the emergency rescue operations had been completed. Rescue workers, medical staff, law enforcement officers and other emergency services were working at the scene.

The Ministry of the Interior has reported that one injured person as a result of the attack on the shopping centre.

Zaporizhzhia came under a series of attacks throughout the day

The strike on «Amstor» was one of several Russian attacks on civilian targets in Zaporizhzhia on 17 September. Earlier that day, a Russian drone attacked passenger coach — eight people were injured. Also FPV drone crashed into an ambulance, injuring the paramedic and the driver.

Over the past 24 hours, the Russian army has carried out 1,031 attacks on 50 settlements in the Zaporizhzhia region. In total, one person was killed and a further 14 were injured as a result of the attacks on Zaporizhzhia and the Zaporizhzhia district. These figures relate to all strikes over the past 24 hours, not just the attack on the shopping centre.

The «Amstor» shopping centre had been operating in Zaporizhzhia for almost 20 years. As well as shops, the complex housed other businesses and a children’s entertainment centre. Following a night-time attack, the building suffered extensive damage.
